The July workshop was run by experienced and inspirational Sound Healing Academy teachers, Natalie Brown and Gretchen Bickert with live support from Tony, the Principal Teacher for the Sound Healing Academy, in the UK. Bringing the Sound Healing Academy’s first truly global workshop to the US.
The dynamic, interactive workshop was held in a beautiful retreat centre in rural Iowa. Students learnt how to work as a professional sound healer working with groups and 1-2-1 with clients. Now they are doing the work they love, creating healing sounds!
Natalie Brown, the lead teacher, shares her account of the workshops.
‘It was two workshops back to back. The five-day one-to-one and five-day groups. In each, there were 20 people, but there was some overlap. Ten people stayed on to do both so there was this transition period that was really interesting to feel the shift in energy.
The first day everyone is just figuring out what is going on and by the end, everyone is hugging and no one wants to leave. Even the people who were there for just five days. We all really bonded.’

‘It was at a great venue, here in Iowa, out in the country. Nature all around and you can’t see any neighbours. Actually, the neighbours just down the road had an alpaca farm so there was a bunch of animals and everybody loved that. It was a very serene environment out of the city, with just nature sounds.’
‘One evening we made a bonfire and had a drum circle. Other evenings we had singing and chanting. We were able to have special events and just all be together, besides the learning during the day. We really connected.
One evening I also lead a gong immersion using a bunch of techniques that I had just learned at the gong summit here in the United States. It was really fun to show everyone all the new techniques I had learned.’
‘Similar to other workshops, it’s just fun to see how people connect over that amount of time, getting to practice together and sharing. We had a lot of show and tell from people that played different instruments. And we were able to have Tony live stream every day. It was really fun to have him there and it all went smoothly.’

‘The part that I enjoyed the most was at the end of the groups Level 2 where everybody got to lead their own sound bath in groups of four. They had to collaborate. Collaborating is a great thing, but there can also be difficulties and they had to learn how to work with other people.
I have to say all the sound baths were amazing, well thought out, really powerful and each unique. They were all very different and highlighted the individual qualities of each person.
Cathy Roddick, Level 2 Diploma Workshop, Iowa.
‘I have known some of the students since Level 1. In fact, more than 80% of them took a Level 1 workshop with me. So, for the majority of them, I’ve seen their whole progress.
Some of them had previous sound healing experience and some of them had none, so it's great to reconnect and see them through their whole journey. It was great to be with those people for that amount of time and I’m excited for them and what they are going to do next.’
