The wellness industry has seen massive growth over the last few years, and for businesses that want to get their name out in the world, digital marketing is key! But where do you start?

In this article, we will share our top tips on how to market your wellbeing business in the digital world so you can set yourself up for success while helping the world heal and evolve.

What Is Digital Marketing?

Digital marketing is any marketing campaign that involves digital communication!

Also called online marketing, digital marketing is how brands and businesses connect with potential customers using the Internet, and other forms of digital communication. This includes email, social media, web-based advertising, and text and multimedia messages as marketing channels.

Digital marketing is vital, especially when you are just starting your sound healing business or practice and want people to find you and your offerings online. Why? Because nowadays, everyone has a website! And if they don't, they at least have a strong social media presence or digital ad strategy.

As a big umbrella term, digital marketing covers many different areas that are equally important to your online health and wellbeing business, which are:

  • Content Marketing
  • Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)
  • Social Media Marketing
  • Advertising
  • Email Marketing

How To Digitally Market Your Wellbeing Business

Moving on, we talk with our Digital Marketing Specialist, Laura Turian, to find out some of her main tips and strategies when it comes to doing digital marketing for any type of wellbeing business, including:

  • Yoga
  • Meditation
  • Reiki
  • Sound healing
  • Massage
  • Physiotherapy
  • Acupuncture
  • Reflexology
  • Aromatherapy
  • …. and the list goes on

So let’s hear what she has to say!

Using digital marketing allows you to target your ideal audience and promote your health and wellness business anywhere people in your audience spend most of their time. It’s easy to reach your target audience, but you must know their needs.

It is also important to have a goal, so keep in mind what you want to accomplish:

  • promote your brand and increase awareness
  • increase the number of bookings/sign ups
  • receive higher engagement
  • get new clients
  • … etc

A digital marketing strategy will involve a series of actions that help your wellbeing business achieve its long-term and short-term goals through select online marketing channels. These include earned, paid, and owned media, all aimed at achieving that goal. Earned media is content others create about you, like reviews or Instagram posts, paid media is content you pay to place in front of an audience as an ad or sponsorship, and owned media is content you create and control, like your Facebook page or your website.

    1. Conduct Market Research

Start by conducting market research to discover your customer needs, your specific business needs, and examine what your competitors are doing.

Find out what defines your wellness business:

  • are you good at yoga, massage, sound healing, corporate wellness programs, or providing wellbeing information, among others?
  • what are your business values, goals, mission, and vision?
  • how do your clients perceive your business?

Next, come up with a clear definition of your target audience - the specific group of people you want to receive your marketing messages. They are the ones who are likely to come to your sound baths or sound healing sessions, and they have some common characteristics, including behaviour and demographics.

At the end of your market research, you should have discovered what you are great at, who your audience is, and what you do better than your competitors. These will later shape your website and social media channels.

     2. Create Your Website

Your website is often the first point of contact with your business.

However, simply having a website is not enough, as it must be well-designed, user-friendly, and optimised for search engines to truly benefit your business. So try to take advantage of your already existing skills, such as web design, graphic design, content writing and photography (if you have them), and if not, look for the best people that could help you create your website.

Then, establish your goal, choose a hosting provider and a website template, and start building your pages with beautifully written content, high-quality images and good SEO. After that, all that’s left is to test and promote your website to your target audience!

    3. Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)

Search engine optimization (SEO) is the art of getting pages to rank higher in search engines such as Google. Because search is one of the main ways in which people discover content online, ranking higher in search engines can lead to an increase in your website traffic.

A great SEO strategy always involves providing informative and engaging content focused on your target audience’s needs and wants. With the right content, you will attract the right visitors who have a high likelihood of turning into clients.

The four pillars of SEO are:

  • Technical SEO - can your content be indexed and crawled? (crawling is the discovery of pages and links that lead to more pages, and indexing is storing, analyzing, and organizing the content and connections between pages)
  • Content - do you have engaging and informative content targeting your ideal clients?
  • On-page SEO - are your site’s HTML and content optimised?
  • Off-page SEO - how are you building authority for your site to improve search rankings?

Even more, as part of a great SEO strategy, you can start a blog on your website where you provide non-promotional posts with valuable content on your client’s pain points. Discuss problems your audience goes through, provide solutions, and only then tell them how your services help solve these challenges.

For example, you might be a sound healer with clients that struggle with anxiety and depression. You could then write blogs on topics like “5 easy ways to ease your anxiety with healing sounds”, “top mantras to release your anxiety”, etc.

    4. Social Media Marketing

Social media marketing is a strategy that uses various social media channels as marketing tools. These platforms enable you and your business to connect with your audiences to build your brand and reputation, increase sales, and drive traffic to your website.

The most popular social media channels are:

  • Instagram
  • Facebook
  • Pinterest
  • TikTok
  • YouTube
  • LinkedIn
  • Twitter

As you can see, there are many platforms available out there, which makes it hard to choose which ones are best for your business. However, your market research will have shown you where to find your audience and what kind of content they like to consume.

Usually, for a wellbeing business, most people expect to see and engage with content mostly on Instagram, YouTube, TikTok and Pinterest.

    5. Measure Your Success

Measuring allows you to determine what’s working and what’s not. You can then improve, eliminate, or modify for better results.

Start by determining what you want to improve, then set a metric to measure success. Think if you need to:

  • improve your SEO efforts
  • focus on creating more valuable content
  • improve your social media engagements
  • change the timing of your email marketing campaigns

You can use Google Analytics to gain insights into your website performance, and for social media, you can use each social platform’s built-in Analytics or Insights sections.
