The Story Of Margaret Schupp's Sound Healing Journey

Margaret Schupp

Margaret Schupp, a lady in her mid-80’s, has suffered from severe mouth ulcers and social disconnection due to decreasing mobility in her old age. Yasmin Rosales meets Anita Cassady Bowman, a trainee sound healing practitioner in Australia, who shares her journey of treating Margaret with the healing powers of sound.

Margaret Schupp, born in 1935, emigrated to Australia from England in 1960. She is a remarkably open-minded and resilient lady, now in her mid-80’s, who spent much of her childhood during WWII under the surface of Manchester [UK] in air raid shelters. Despite a nutritionally deficient diet, two hip and one knee replacement, she remains a mentally acute, enquiring and inspiring lady, who is keenly interested in natural healing modalities.

I have been training as a sound healing practitioner with the Sound Healing Academy and as part of my training, I have to find clients that are happy for me to offer practice treatments where I can refine my healing skills. Margaret was one of my first one-to-one practice clients in early 2019.

Margaret had been suffering from mouth ulcers for many months. The cause remained unknown. Eating, drinking and talking had been painful for a long time, causing Margaret physical and emotional distress. I was thrilled when the morning after Margaret’s first sound healing session, she called me to exclaim that her evening meal had been the most enjoyable she had experienced in a long time. I believe the tuning forks (C, G and weighted OM 136Hz) had had an especially profound effect on easing the discomfort she had been enduring.

Margaret was also experiencing feelings of social disconnection due to the inhibited movement that comes with ageing. This was influencing her usually calm and peaceful demeanour. So, she wished to leave behind the frustrating thoughts and processes of ageing to embrace instead her highest self.

Sharing with me stories of her life, it was clear that Margaret has been a natural communicator and instigator of spiritual awakening in people of all ages through her open-heart, innate ability to seek wisdom and higher spiritual connection. A reduction in mobility in more recent years, however, had left her feeling a little stagnant and less useful in the community. To honour this, I tailored our first session to include medicine drumming. I used this approach to entrain the heart and brain. To create a ‘shamanic’ or healing space where the inner guidance and pure knowledge of the spirit could be more easily accessed. This is where the awakening of a deeper truth, confidence and joy could be felt through a more palpable connection to the infinite energy of the eternal heart field/Heart-Mind.

Margaret’s response to the medicine drum, which followed crystal singing bowls and Koshi chimes, was also powerful. During this treatment, she had an out- of- body experience, journeying back through time where she felt the freedom and lightness of being more physically able. She saw herself as a young girl riding her bike, running and swimming. She felt the joy of countless remembered activities and ‘awoke’ to embrace a true acceptance and appreciation for the life she had lived; she felt renewed and satisfied. After the session, Margaret told me: “You treated me with a great understanding of my ageing symptoms.”

After the first week of Margaret’s sound healing sessions with me, she contracted a viral infection, which affected her lungs and breathing capacity. As a child, she had developed tuberculosis, an illness that almost prevented her from migrating to Australia. The effects of regular treatments continued to ease her symptoms dramatically and her breathing corrected itself. It was clear that Margaret was and is extremely responsive to sound energy.

During two weeks of sickness, I saw Margaret once on a lighter day. She was relieved and happy to receive sound healing. After the session, she exclaimed to me: “That was fantastic, Anita. I could feel every part of my body come alive. I felt I could get up and jump around!”

Margaret happily holds a couple of tuning forks after discovering their healing powers.

Margaret is a true fan of this healing modality and has since asked for regular treatments. Every time she experiences - at the very least - deep relaxation, an elevated mood and improved physical well-being.
